About
About Me
Hazel enjoys crafting colourful & contemporary glassworks; infusing each hand-crafted piece with ethereal beauty and soul, Hazel aims to bring a glimmer of daily joy to the collector.
Originally from Scotland, Hazel moved with her family to Western Australia in October 2023.
Finding a sense of peace and rhythm in creation from an early age, Hazel has always enjoyed trying to capture ephemeral beauty in nature through her work. Hazel attended Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, and the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating from the University for the Creative Arts in 2006.
Taking a 17 year hiatus from art work (a brief dabble with silversmithing aside) until 2023 when, still reeling from the sudden loss of her Mum, Hazel dipped her toes back into a creative space, marking the start of her healing journey.
In Spring 2023, Hazel both participated in a beginners fusing workshop and asked her beloved Uncle to show her how to make a stained glass star. Beyond this, Hazel is self-taught in all aspects of glasswork, enjoying exploring a wonderfully diverse and limitless medium.
Through her emerging practice as a glass artist, Hazel has cautiously opened her heart to the beautiful connections found and fostered through her creative re-emergence and is looking forward with optimism to see what the future unfolds.
Hazel is inspired by the light and dark of life, the ‘salty & healing’ sea of Wardandi Boodja, the lyrics of Scott Hutchison, and a general sense of existential awe.
